Teen Out of Control - Communicate & Be Friend with Your Teen

There are many self-help methods used by parents all over the world to counter their teen out of control issues

Nurturing a young kid and raising a teenager are completely different sets of struggles. In your children''s early years, your job is to make sure they are protected from any violence or danger, and they are also receiving the appropriate child''s education.

As your kids grow up into adolescence, your responsibility has changed. Teenagers like to challenge their parents as well as the status quo. They strive to be independent and want to prove to you that you can''t control them. They want to make their own selection, but they don''t always make the best decisions. As parents, when you are trying to control and intercept their decision making and activities, you''ll get a lot of resistance. Suddenly you may find that you are in a teen out of control dilemma. The more lecturing, scolding and punishing you do, the more defensive is your teenager.

Your job is to teach your teenager about responsibility. Teens enjoy going out with friends more than with their own family. Often they behave like an adult without adult''s maturity and responsibility. Also, most teenagers will not turn to their parents for guidance as they think that the parents won''t be able to understand their problems. Communication gaps are often created due to distrust of their parents.

To handle your teen out of control situation, one of the things you can do is to learn what he or she really enjoys doing. You can try to be a nicer parent and be a friend to him or her.

If you can improve communication and spend time with your teenagers, you''ll be able to gain their trust and learn more about their thinking. Your teens like to have attention, and they want to be heard and respected. As parents, you should give them praise when it is due.

There are many self-help methods used by parents all over the world to counter their teen out of control issues. Some of the common methods are grounding, being harsh, being soft, removing privilege and reasoning with the teen.
