. Leigh Montville Leigh Montville is a highly-respected sportswriter, columnist and author. Montville was born July 20, 1943 in New Haven, Connecticut. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.

Montville is married to Diane Foster and has two children.

Montville, a former Boston Globe sports columnist and an avid Red Sex fan, has written a formidable biography of a man he admired while still recognizing his character flaws. Injuries, marital discord, and military service interrupted Williams' 19-year baseball career, but his unending struggle to perfect his swing never ceased. The biography also covers his fishing obsession, his lifelong support of the Jimmy Fund for childhood cancer research and care, and his multiple marriages and relationships (or lack thereof) with his children.

A fascinating study of the man and the myth, even for non-sports fans, although caution is advised due to the frequent use of foul language. Brick's reading, pace and intonation throughout are exciting.
