It's that time of year again. Time to look out on the vast horizon of pretty good stuff and select some of the truly cool goodies.

Usually, we try to keep an eye on productivity items for executives on the move. This time around we focus instead on products that improve performance--and look good doing it. Sony's pixel-packed handheld computer, the Clie, is an obvious choice, as is Palm's newest entry in the handheld arena, the good-looking-but-serious m505.

we have some fun with movies and music, too, singling out Panasonic's super portable DVD player and Creative's best digital music player, the heavy-hitting Nomad Jukebox, now with an astounding 20 gigabytes of memory. To round things out, we hit the road. Toyota loaned us a Prius, its gasoline-electric hybrid car, for a test drive around Miami. And we look into Sun Microsystem's alternative office software, StarOffice and find it lacking nothing and certainly easy to use.
