To kick off this event, SCM GROUP USA also held its First Annual SCM Spring Open Golf Tournament at Chicopee Woods Golf Course in Gainesville, GA. The U.S. Tech Tours encompassed machine demos and seminars at SCM's facility in Duluth, GA, and Georgia Tech's Advanced Wood Products Laboratory. Each day concluded with a plant tour of a local SCM customer. DAY ONE This full day of activities began at SCM GROUP USA's facility in Duluth, GA. The demos and seminars were concluded with a visit to an SCM customer's plant, Georgia Hardwoods in Buford, GA. Georgia Hardwoods is one of the largest distributors of hardwood lumber, plywood, trim, cabinet doors and drawer boxes in the southeastern United States. At the plant, owner Bob Dyson presented information regarding Georgia Hardwoods' use of SCM's machines in the facility. Dyson also gave SCM customers a "sneak peek" of his new plans of expansion and discussed how SCM equipment plays an essential role in his daily production needs. "SCM is the best. The people are good and they take care of us," Dyson says. DAY TWO Tour participants began their day at Georgia Tech's Advanced Wood Products Laboratory (AWPL AWPL Advanced Wood Products Laboratory (Georgia Institute of Technology) AWPL Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (IEEE all-electronic publication) ) participating in machine demonstrations on some of SCM's more advanced technology machines. Seminars also were conducted in a classroom setting during the machine demos on the following topics: "CNC Tooling Performance" and "Screen-to-Machine," which was held in conjunction with Planit Solutions. The SCM U.S. Technology Tours were concluded with a plant visit to Leeman Architectural Woodwork in Powder Springs, GA.
