Techniclone International names Carmelo J. Santoro to board of directors; former Ashton-Tate chairman and Silicon Systems executive to assist in corporate expansion efforts.

Santoro, Ph.D., former chairman of Ashton-Tate and current chairman of Silicon Systems Inc. and Platinum Software Corp., has joined the company's board of directors.

Dr. Santoro continues to serve as chairman of Silicon Systems Inc., of Tustin, Calif., a seminconductor company specializing in application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). He originally joined Silicon Systems as a director and shortly thereafter became president and COO. During his eight year tenure, annual sales grew from $10 million to over $180 million. Silicon Systems currently holds the largest share of the global market for mixed signal ASICs in hard disk drives and serves every manufacturer of Micro Winchester drives in the world.

Dr. Santoro also serves as chairman of Platinum Software Corp. of Irvine, Calif., a leader in client-server financial software. Under his earlier leadership as CEO, Platinum developed a new corporate strategy, product offering and management team.

Dr. Santoro began his career as a senior scientist with Motorola Inc., where he held positions as manager, LSI LSI: see integrated circuit.
