Team Balance Bar led the New York race virtually wire-to-wire, beginning with Special Test No. 1, the four-legged Grand Prix Start, and continuing with the two three-mile trail runs, two six-mile mountain bike segments, and a 1.5-mile kayak paddle, in which the teams were only allowed one paddle. Among other special tests included in the New York event were orienteering orienteering Cross-country footrace in which each participant uses a map and compass to navigate between checkpoints along an unfamiliar course.
