Centuries of dedicated use backs up chamomile's credibility as a cure-all for menstrual cramps menstrual cramps Spasmodic dysmenorrhea Gynecology Painful cramps, spasms, lower abdominal discomfort, generally occurring on the first day of the menstrual period; the pain may extend to the low back, thighs, pelvis, and be accompanied by N&V, dizziness, , insomnia, skin irritations, and stomachaches.

Now a small study of men and women who drank five cups of chamomile chamomile or camomile (both: kăm`əmīl', –mēl') [Gr.,=ground apple], name for various related plants of the family Asteraceae (aster family), especially the perennial Anthemis nobilis,  tea daily for fourteen days seems to support the herb's claim to fame. Two notable substances--hippurate, a product released by bacteria-fighting compounds in plants, and the amino acid amino acid (əmē`nō), any one of a class of simple organic compounds containing carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and in certain cases sulfur. These compounds are the building blocks of proteins.  glycine glycine (glī`sēn), organic compound, one of the 20 amino acids commonly found in animal proteins. Glycine is the only one of these amino acids that is not optically active, i.e. , which seems to relax nerves and ease muscle spasms--turned up in high concentrations in the tea drinkers. When the volunteers stopped the test, levels of these chemicals remained elevated for as long as two weeks.

Sipping one or two cups of chamomile tea daily just may be enough to do battle with what ails you!
