Taylor, Brink lead Amateur qualifying.

MONROE - Crescent Valley High senior Brandon Taylor and Dan Brink of Yacolt, Wash., tied for medalist honors in qualifying for the Oregon Amateur held Saturday at Diamond Woods Golf Course.

Taylor and Brink both shot even-par 72 in a steady drizzle on Saturday, one shot better than Brian Watts of Corvallis and Adam Lacey and David Jacobson of Portland.

North Bend's Jordan Sweet shot 74 to earn one of 22 berths to the statewide competition. Also qualifying were Gerard Percy of Bandon (77), Jim Tatum of Eugene (77), Caleb Taskinen of Brownsville (78) and Scott Wiley of Eugene (78).

Ryan Omlid of Leaburg and Alex Gruber of Eugene were among the alternates.

Rain forces OSU to

doubleheader today

CORVALLIS - Oregon State and UNLV UNLV University of Nevada, Las Vegas  will play a doubleheader today at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field Goss Stadium at Coleman Field is a college baseball stadium in Corvallis, Oregon. It is the home venue of the Oregon State University baseball team, the Oregon State Beavers.  after Saturday's game was postponed due to rain.

The doubleheader will begin at 11 a.m. Tickets for Saturday's game will be good for the opener, and tickets for Sunday's game will be good for the second game.

Huskies roll past Oregon men's tennis team

Eric Pickard was Oregon's lone winner, as Washington defeated the Ducks 6-1 in a Pac-10 men's tennis tournament on Saturday at the UO Student Tennis Center.

Pickard beat Michael Ricks 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6) in No. 6 singles. The only other Oregon player to win a set was Mike Myrhed, who lost 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 to the Huskies' Derek Drabble drab·ble

Denver pulls away to claim MPSF MPSF Mountain Pacific Sports Federation  lacrosse title

The Ducks (11-6, 4-1 MPSF) trailed 7-3 at halftime but got within 8-6 with 22 minutes remaining behind a pair of goals by Kate Fleming. But the Pioneers (14-2, 4-0) put the game away about 10 minutes later with a four-goal flurry in a 57-second span.

Fleming scored four goals to lead Oregon.

CALDWELL, Idaho - Stacy Smith hit three home runs to lead 24th-ranked Albertson College to a 10-2, 7-2 sweep of Northwest Christian College Northwest Christian College is a private, liberal arts college located in Eugene, Oregon and is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ.  in a softball doubleheader on Saturday.

Smith hit a solo home run in the second inning of the opener and a three-run homer in the third for the Coyotes, who took advantage of four NCC errors to score four runs in the fourth inning and break the game open.

In the second game, NCC's Kasey Sconce and Lisa Martinez each hit RBI singles to give the Beacons a 2-1 lead before Albertson rallied behind a two-run double by A.J. Cavanaugh and a two-run homer by Smith.

OSU center transfers

to Western Oregon

MONMOUTH - Liam Hughes, a 7-foot-3 center from England, has transferred from Oregon State to Western Oregon, it was announced on Friday.

National Collegiate Athletic Association
 Division II college in the state. Hughes will be a senior and eligible for the 2007-08 season.

Western Oregon is a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference The Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) is a college athletic conference which operates in the Northwestern United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division II. . The Wolves are coached by Craig Stanger.

Hughes, who played in 21 games during his three seasons and a redshirt year with OSU, was the tallest player in the Pac-10 Conference last season and, according to Western Oregon officials, likely is the tallest in WOU history.

The Wolves have added a second transfer to their roster. Sam Kelly, a 6-5 player from South Salem High, has transferred to Western Oregon from Salt Lake (Utah) Community College.
