Tax time.

An American rite of spring is the dance through the calculations that govern the amount of income tax workers must pay, and the April 15 deadline for filing is coming right up. So the Business Journal asks:

Have you finished your 2004 tax forms yet?

No, I always wait until April to do my taxes. For the past 10 years I've had an accountant do them. But I felt the accountant was very rushed and not giving me the time and attention I wanted. By the time you see your consultant in April they look like they haven't slept in weeks. Last year I did them myself with TurboTax. It took me longer but I had more confidence in the results.

My wife is doing them, so they're in process. I typically get them done before April 15th since I do it for a living. Most tax accountants get them done at the tail end but my wife is ahead of the game.

I'm going to see if we make it in time and if not, just get an extension. I love extensions. I just give one document with everything on it to the preparer. They turn it right around. I usually get an extension most every year. I usually put off death and taxes.

Yes, I have finished. I try to do them as soon as I can. I'm usually done by the end of March. Yes, I submitted them three weeks ago. I use a CPA, but it was harder than last year. I had to submit more detailed information for income and business expenses. We have gross revenue and direct related expenses, and that has to be broken down in more detail than in years past. My CPA sends forms for me to fill out and it took me longer than last year to complete all the documentation, especially related to income and sales of stocks and bonds.
