"I think war should be the absolute last resort and I feel we jumped the gun way too early, so to speak," says Diane Gruver of Eugene.

Gruver says she hasn't seen an increase in clients requesting patriotic tattoos, but has noticed older veterans coming in to study the books of military tattoos A military tattoo, is a military drum performance. It dates from the seventeenth century when the British Army were fighting in the Low Countries (Belgium and The Netherlands). . "For older vets, it's a painful time," she says.

"You think of the soldiers who fought and died at Normandy and you feel an aching sadness. But to see this, where people are being killed and you don't feel it's a just war, is very painful."
