Kansas City Kansas City, two adjacent cities of the same name, one (1990 pop. 149,767), seat of Wyandotte co., NE Kansas (inc. 1859), the other (1990 pop. 435,146), Clay, Jackson, and Platte counties, NW Mo. (inc. 1850). Ballet founder Tatiana Dokoudovska died in September at age 84. While developing the KCB KCB (in Britain) Knight Commander of the Bath company, Dokoudovska helped to create what is now the University of Missouri-Kansas City's dance department. French-born Dokoudovska came to America with Mikhail Mordkin's touring company, and later joined the Mordkin Ballet, which eventually became American Ballet Theatre American Ballet Theatre, one of the foremost international dance companies of the 20th cent. It was founded in 1937 as the Mordkin Ballet and reorganized as the Ballet Theatre in 1940 under the direction of Lucia Chase and Rich Pleasant. .
