Tata Consultancy Services Offers World-Class RFID and Data Synchronization Solutions and Industry Expertise; iSYNC solution by TCS helps consumer product companies meet mandate by large retailers for new item data synchronization standards.
TCS recently established a practice group and a Center of Excellence for radio frequency identification (RFID) solutions to respond to the mandate by several large retailers for consumer products companies to be RFID-compliant by 2005. The TCS retail and consumer packaged goods practice maintains a dedicated team of RFID engineers, and also draws upon its fleet of experienced business domain experts to offer consulting, application development, systems integration, and after sales support and training to customers in the retail sphere.
"As major retailers and consumer packaged goods companies seek ways to integrate RFID into their business strategies, TCS has anticipated this trend and has committed to significant Global Delivery System initiatives to help enable RFID implementation in these organizations," said Muthukumar Natesan, retail and consumer packaged goods practice head for TCS America. "TCS is actively investing to develop leading technology solutions that will help our customers meet these goals, and ultimately will assist the industry in preparing for the next generation of data synchronization. TCS' retail and consumer goods practice knowledge assets and expertise are helping customers reshape their businesses and deliver competitive advantage."
As part of this investment, TCS developed iSYNC, a proprietary item synchronization methodology which helps consumer product companies connect to UCCnet and business-to-business exchanges in order to synchronize data with its trading partners. Data synchronization has been identified as the most pressing initiative of the retail and consumer products industry, as industry- wide compliance is essential in realizing current supply chain initiatives, including efficient consumer response (ECR), vendor managed inventory (VMI), and collaborative planning forecasting and replenishment (CPFR), as well as future initiatives, such as RFID.
At the conference, TCS led the AutoID TechTour panel to discuss retail industry initiatives. The panel featured industry leaders IBM, Intel, Manhattan, SAP, and Sato America. The session covered the latest in Auto ID and Data Capture technologies, including RFID, ePC, EAS, and biometrics. The panel also examined emerging EAN.UCC standards such as Reduced Space Symbology (RSS), Global Trade Item Number (GTIN), and Global Location Number (GLN). Practice leaders from TCS' retail and consumer packaged goods practice led a discussion on how the application of these technologies and standards can improve n-tier supply chain management and improve data integrity.
The Retail and consumer packaged goods practice at TCS has built and nourishes partnerships with software and hardware vendors, including Oracle, Retek, WebMethods, i2 Technologies, and Retail Pro. The firm also maintains strong alliances with industry organizations such as the National Retail Federation, the Association of Retail Technology Standards (ARTS), the Uniform Code Council, and the Voluntary Inter-Industry Commerce Standards.
