They recently opened the third in their chain of Lickity Split stores at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. "We've been learning as we go," said Scott, who had worked in the garment industry since 1973.

Scott opened the first Lickity Split in El Segundo El Segundo (ĕl sēgŭn`dō), industrial city (1990 pop. 15,223), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1917. Its products include navigation and computer systems, aircraft parts, office machines, telephone apparatus, and  in 2003. Then he teamed up with Brown, a Microsoft refugee, and they opened a second store in Manhattan Beach Manhattan Beach, city (1990 pop. 32,063), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1912. It is a residential and beach community with an oil refinery and nearby factories that produce transportation and electrical equipment, computers, and pottery. . "I just thought it was time for the next phase in my life to begin," Brown said.

They have faced some familiar issues such as expanding their menu and changing their store design. Lickety Split stores offer free wireless Internet, in addition to custard flavors that change throughout the day.

"If a product costs $2.75, you have to sell a lot of them to make money," said Brown. "The secret to our business is being in a place with enormous foot traffic."
