Targeting scouts, then your church.

First the good news. On June 9th, the board of directors of Philadelphia's local Cradle of Liberty Boy Scout Council announced that it was reversing the new policy it had adopted in May of accepting homosexuals as members and leaders. This new policy represented not only a cowardly capitulation to the bullying tactics of the militant homosexual lobby, but a betrayal of everything the organization has stood for throughout nearly a century of its existence.

Fortunately, the national council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is made of sterner stuff. It told the Philadelphia council that it must conform to the organization's national standards or face expulsion. Philadelphia's local leadership got back in line.

This is an important victory not only for the 87,000 young members of the Philadelphia council, but for the millions of boys and adults involved in the Scouting programs nationwide. Beyond that, it is a victory for our entire society in one of the most brutal battlefronts of the ongoing culture war.

Consider what is happening here. For the past 20 years, the Boy Scouts have been victims of an escalating campaign of intimidation and legal harassment from the organized deviants and their wealthy patrons in Holly wood, the big foundations, and corporate Babylon.

In June 2000, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against the homosexual zealots in Boy Scouts of America v. Dale (an avowed homosexual activist). In a 5-4 decision, the court upheld the BSA's standing as a private organization with the right to set its own standards for membership and leadership. Those standards include the Scout Oath, in which Scouts pledge to stay "morally straight."

That's what drives the Lavender Mafia into paroxysms of apoplectic fury. They are free to go start their own Rainbow Scouts or Swisher Scouts. In fact, they have done so. They call their organization Scouting For All. But they are not content with that; they feel compelled to destroy the Boy Scouts as well, by gender-bending it to their own warped desires.

Scouting For All is obsessed with assaulting the Boy Scouts, not serving the "gay youth" it claims to care about. Go to their website and see the aggressive attack campaign they have mapped out. A major part of their strategy is to hurt the Boy Scouts' financial base. Their website declares:

   We call upon the businesses and organizations such
   as the United Way, who fund the BSA to follow
   their own business and organization's anti-discrimination
   policies.... Inform the Boy Scouts of
   America that they must rescind their discriminatory
   policy against gay youth and adults and atheists
   or be terminated as a beneficiary.

Talk about "tolerance"! The Scouting For All gangsters are saying, in effect: "You must throw out your fundamental precepts and accept us on our terms, or we'll destroy you." Note also the demand for acceptance of atheists. Of course. Must not allow these young minds to be poisoned by the "G" word in the Scout Oath: "On my honor I will do my best, To do my duty to God and my country...." (Emphasis added.)

The Scouting For All-United Way tag team was largely responsible for the Philadelphia council's original cave-in. The Pew Charitable Trusts, a foundation noted for funding left-wing causes, also weighed in. Pew killed a $100,000 grant to the Cradle of Liberty Council after it readopted the national Boy Scout position. The United Way may pull $400,000.

The Philadelphia council's executive, William T. Dwyer III, originally claimed that the council had adopted the pro-homosexual policy because it was listening to "the community." What community? "The community told us that sending a message of discrimination in any form should not be tolerated," Dwyer said. You know what community he was referring to. It certainly wasn't the tens of thousands of boys in the council or their parents and grandparents who were demanding acceptance of homosexual Scouts and Scout leaders. Democrat and Republican strategists can talk all they want about "big tent" politics, but when it comes time for Junior to camp out with his fellow Scouts in the big woods, you want a small tent populated with only the "morally straight." Yes, that's horribly politically incorrect, but we know instinctively that it is absolutely morally and prudentially correct.

The ongoing attack on the Boy Scouts is a battle that involves all of us, whether we are formally involved in Scouting or not. If the radicals attacking this revered and wholesome institution succeed, they will not stop there. They have said so themselves. All private institutions, including churches and synagogues, are being targeted. It is time for believers in biblical morality to come out of the pews and defend society from the Philistines. Are the United Ways in your area, or your city or county governments, or local corporations ganging up with the homosexuals to persecute the Boy Scouts? If so, what are you and your church and your friends and neighbors doing? The Boy Scouts are on the front line now, but if they fall, your organization, your company, your church will be next.
