Grab your tap shoes and head upstate. The mayor of Ithaca, NY, Carolyn K. Peterson, has proclaimed April 1 as Finger Lakes Finger Lakes, group of 11 narrow glacial lakes in north to south valleys, W central N.Y. Cayuga and Seneca lakes, both more than 35 mi (56 km) long, are the largest and deepest. Keuka Lake is the center of the area's wine industry, the largest in New York. Fertile soil and hillsides receiving abundant sunshine make this an important viticulture and truck-farming region; fruits and buckwheat are important crops. Tap Dance Festival Day. The weekend-long festival, starting Friday, March 30, will include a tap jam, a performance called Walking in Time, and two days of master classes with Dianne "Lady Di" Walker, Jason Samuels Smith, Michelle Dorrance, Rocky Mendes, and Andrew J.
