, a Tandem customer, "The Internet provides the largest and most inexpensive electronic service delivery front-end available today. Companies that ignore this network and the marketplace it creates do so at their own peril. But for companies to truly conduct commerce over the Internet, it is important that their network be fully secure while easily accommodating continuous security improvements. It is equally important that the service be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and that the communication technology be sufficiently robust to support high volumes of transactions in a wide form including voice, data, and video. In short, the bank strategy is to make practical the electronic delivery of A4 (Anyone: Anywhere: Anytime: Any product). These are all areas where Tandem has a proven track record, and we're looking forward to working with them to make this a reality."

Tandem's Open Strategy to Support Leading Internet Solutions

Because the Tandem CyberWeb family is based on an open architecture, it can support multiple, leading Internet solutions, including popular Web clients, multiple security schemes, leading Web servers, and a full range of development tools.

Integrated Electronic Commerce Solutions

Tandem believes that it is necessary to leverage the strengths of both the Internet, with its low cost and ease of access, and private payment networks, with their established security and centralized control, in order to create an integrated, reliable infrastructure for electronic commerce, according to Bill Heil, Tandem vice president of Product Management and Product Marketing. To this end, the company is partnering with leaders in the security, communications, and financial processing/electronic settlement arenas.

"Tandem is applying to the Internet market the same reliability, scalability, and security attributes that have made it the platform of choice for 75 percent of the world's ATMs, 66 percent of its credit card transactions, 32 of its largest telecommunications companies, plus seven of the ten leading value-added EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) The electronic communication of business transactions, such as orders, confirmations and invoices, between organizations. Third parties provide EDI services that enable organizations with different equipment to connect.  networks in the U.S.," said Heil. "We're in a unique position to leverage our expertise and partnerships in back-end transaction processing to knock down the most notorious barriers to conducting real business -- including business involving financial transactions -- via the Internet."

MPACT MPACT Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College Tuition Plan , a provider of EDI solutions that are used on Tandem platforms, is extending its EDI services and facilities with an emphasis on EDI ordering-based catalog servers. For each order received, MPACT will create an EDI transaction that contains payment information and will automatically send it to private payment networks for processing. "MPACT sees real opportunity in integrating the Internet into our EDI solution," said Brian Edwards, president of MPACT. "It widens our scope of offering and places us ahead of our competitors. We already use Tandem to host our EDI networks, and we view accepting Internet transactions using Tandem's solution to be a natural extension of what they already excel at."

Applied Communications, Inc. develops, markets, and supports application software solutions for Tandem platforms that facilitate electronic commerce and home banking by providing consumers access to their credit and direct deposit accounts.
