from Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA).

Implementing Unicenter TNG in conjunction with Tandem(R) NonStop Himalaya servers allows customers to better ensure the continuous availability of their business-critical systems and be able to manage those systems in conjunction with their other enterprise resources, reducing their total systems cost of ownership.

An early adopter program for CA's Unicenter TNG was initiated at the annual International Tandem User's Group (ITUG ITUG International Tandem Users Group
ITUG International Telecommunications User's Group
ITUG Iowa Telecommunications Users Group
) conference at the San Jose San Jose, city, United States

CA's Unicenter TNG is the industry-leading integrated enterprise management solution for large-scale, multiplatform computing. It enables organizations to manage all IT resources, networks, systems, applications, and databases in a heterogeneous environment Using hardware and system software from different vendors. Organizations often use computers, operating systems and databases from a variety of vendors. Contrast with homogeneous environment. . CA has the largest enterprise-management client base in the world, including 800 user groups with more than 50,000 active participants.

NonStop Himalaya servers are well-known as the fault-tolerant core systems for the world's stock exchanges, global banks and financial institutions, large retail organizations, and the world's largest telecommunications companies See telecom company. .

Enrico Pesatori, president of Tandem said, "The implementation of the industry's leading enterprise manageability product on our NonStop Himalaya range of servers is a very significant event for us. With this announcement, CA Unicenter TNG is now available on both our NonStop systems and our clustered Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. (R) servers, adding world-class management to the Tandem fundamentals of reliability and scalability."

"By supporting Tandem's NonStop servers, which play a crucial role in many of the world's leading companies -- in addition to the many other computing platforms typically found in today's distributed enterprise -- Unicenter TNG provides end-to-end management capabilities that IT managers absolutely must have," said CA Chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Charles B. Wang. "No other management vendor provides integrated support for such a comprehensive portfolio of IT resources, from high-end servers like Tandem's to Java-based thin clients."

Unicenter TNG for Himalaya servers will provide significant new functionality beyond the current management solution for NonStop Himalaya servers, including the following: -0-

-- Complete management of the Tandem Himalaya server environment through Unicenter TNG's Windows NT console, utilizing Unicenter TNG's Real World Interface. Unicenter TNG includes agents for monitoring and managing the Tandem NonStop Kernel platform. In addition, Unicenter TNG's AgentFactory enables users and third parties to build and deploy their own management agents on the NonStop Kernel platform.

-- Integration of Object Management Facility and Network Statistics software from Tandem on top of the Unicenter TNG infrastructure, including object repository, events, GUI (Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface. , and Business Process Views. The availability of these products as options to Unicenter TNG enables systems administrators to fully leverage Tandem management facilities from within Unicenter TNG and Unicenter TNG-based applications.

-- Full Business Process Views, which provides Tandem users with business-centric management of their entire IT environment and also integrates Unicenter TNG's management capabilities with those in Tandem's core management facilities, including Object Management Facility and Network Statistics software. -0-

With these new capabilities, IT managers will have a powerful portfolio of new tools to better manage their enterprise networks. For example, systems administrators can now point and click on a specific application and view only the components of that environment, not the entire network. This accelerates the problem-solving process by allowing managers to focus directly on those segments that need immediate attention.

In addition, NonStop Himalaya server-based Unicenter TNG supports Tandem's intent to bridge NonStop Kernel and Windows NT Server platforms. In a heterogeneous management framework, users can architect and better manage applications and databases that take advantage of both NonStop Himalaya and Windows NT Server-based systems.

For ITUG attendees, Tandem will be demonstrating Unicenter TNG on NonStop Himalaya servers in a heterogeneous system heterogeneous system

In a strategic partnership signed last year, Tandem and CA agreed that Tandem systems, including NonStop Himalaya servers and Windows NT Server-based systems, would be standardized on Unicenter TNG. In addition, the two companies agreed to jointly develop a Unicenter TNG extension that brings high availability Also called "RAS" (reliability, availability, serviceability) or "fault resilient," it refers to a multiprocessing system that can quickly recover from a failure. There may be a minute or two of downtime while one system switches over to another, but processing will continue.  and fault tolerance See fault tolerant.
