Apple's newest operating system operating system (OS)

Software that controls the operation of a computer, directs the input and output of data, keeps track of files, and controls the processing of computer programs.
, Mac OS 10 v 10.2--better known as Jaguar--has more than 150 new features, including AOL-compatible instant messaging Exchanging text messages in real time between two or more people logged into a particular instant messaging (IM) service. Instant messaging is more interactive than e-mail because messages are sent immediately, whereas e-mail messages can be queued up in a mail server for seconds or , enhanced mail functions to filter out junk mail See spam and junk faxes. , and a "street savvy" address book (click on an address to pull up a Web map). One thing Jaguar doesn't have, however, is an operating manual. And since administrators and faculty already have enough on their plate without having to make sense of the new system, author David Pogue David Pogue (born March 9 1963) is a technology writer, journalist and commentator. He is a personal technology columnist for the New York Times, an Emmy-winning tech correspondent for CBS News Sunday Morning, and tech guest reporter for NPR's Morning Edition.  came to the rescue with Mac OS X: The Missing Manual to help users master Jaguars new features. Written in Pogue's witty style, the book includes information-packed chapters on iChat (the instant messaging software), and Sherlock 3, the powerful search tool that brings information from the Web directly to the desktop.
