Dear Current Events,

It's amazing how people cause predicaments and animals get blamed ["Are Zoos Bad News?" issue 14]. Animals usually don't attack in captivity unless they're provoked. As far as monkeys, parrots, and other animals grooming themselves until they are bare, that may just mean that they need more activities and games. They would more than likely be satisfied with a toy. Any cat, even house cats, will attack if provoked, including my cat, Sebastian. People need to be more educated about animals.

I understand that kids love viewing animals, but think of it this way: What if you were an animal and you were just taken away from your home, family, and friends. How would you feel? ... Being caged up all day just gives pleasure to someone else.

I think that even with zookeepers maintaining a steady diet, fun games, and lots of action [for them], animals are meant to be free.... People can learn in other ways than going to the zoo and just staring at the animals.
