Tales from Texas: NRPA Congress descends upon the Lone Star State for sun, fun, education and networking for its members.They say everything is bigger in Texas--that certainly held true in October when the NRPA NRPA National Recreation and Park Association NRPA Natural Resources Protective Association (Staten Island, NY) NRPA Niagara Regional Police Association (Canada) NRPA National Rifle and Pistol Association Congress and Exposition set up in San Antonio San Antonio (săn ăntō`nēō, əntōn`), city (1990 pop. 935,933), seat of Bexar co., S central Tex., at the source of the San Antonio River; inc. 1837. . With record-setting attendance and exhibits, participants were treated to more than 250 educational sessions, close to 500 exhibitors and larger-than-life Texas fun. It's hard to truly convey the energy captured at this annual event, but hopefully the following pages will give you a sense of the camaraderie, the opportunities and the experiences that Congress offers attendees every year. This year, participants were treated to a packed-house opening session with keynote speaker Emmitt Smith Emmitt James Smith III (born May 15 1969 in Pensacola, Florida) is a former American football player, who played for the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals. Smith is a three time Super Bowl champion and the NFL's all time rushing leader, a record formerly held by his childhood , retired running back for the Dallas Cowboys traditional first prize. In the following days, National Partnerships unveiled some new opportunities for park and recreation agencies to get involved (see page 62) and the Board of Trustees board of trustees Politics The posse of thugs who oversee an institution's administration. See Board of directors. welcomed new members and approved new initiatives for the coming year (see page 70). It was an exciting time in San Antonio.
