Takara Shuzo to Adopt Biodegradable Plastic Bottle Caps for Its Products.Tokyo, Japan, Sept 3, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Takara Shuzo will adopt environmentally-friendly bottle caps for its products. Specifically, the company will use a hinge cap made of biodegradable biodegradable /bio·de·grad·a·ble/ (-de-grad´ah-b'l) susceptible of degradation by biological processes, as by bacterial or other enzymatic action. bi·o·de·grad·a·ble adj. plastic that has been co-developed by Mikasa Sangyo and Unitika. The hinge cap is mainly made of corn-based polylactide resin, which is degraded into carbon dioxide carbon dioxide, chemical compound, CO2, a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that is about one and one-half times as dense as air under ordinary conditions of temperature and pressure. and water by microorganisms and degradative enzymes.
