Takara Bio Establishes Innovative Method to Commercially Produce Chalcones.


Tokyo, Japan, July 22, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Takara Bio (TSE See Tokyo Stock Exchange.

: 4974) announced on July 20 that it has developed a method to industrially produce chalcones, the active ingredients of Angelica keiskei Koidzumi, an umbelliferous perennial plant indigenous to Japan. The new method can manufacture chalcones by tank culture.

The company has confirmed that chalcones have insulin-like activity and aldose reductase inhibitory activity so that they help prevent and cure diabetes.

Based on the latest achievement, the company aims to develop a mass production technique for chalcones. Details of the achievement will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Plant Cell and Molecular Biology Cell and Molecular Biology may refer to:

  • Molecular biology
 to be held in Kyoto on August 5.
