) - Hitachi announced on May 8 that Tajima Bank has adopted its proprietary finger vein authentication system The combination of authentication server and authenticator, which may be separate devices or both reside in the same unit such as an access point or network access server. The authentication server contains a database of user names, passwords and policies, and the authenticator physically  and begun offering a biometrics service for customers.

The bank will issue a cash card embedded with an IC chip to its customers and replace its automated teller machines automated teller machine (ATM), device used by bank customers to process account transactions. Typically, a user inserts into the ATM a special plastic card that is encoded with information on a magnetic strip.  (ATMs) with finger vein authentication (1) Verifying the integrity of a transmitted message. Hitachi and Hitachi-Omron Terminal Solutions will provide a comprehensive support service to the bank in everything from issuing smartcards to installing authentication ATMs. This is the first time that a finger vein authentication system has been used in a bank based in Hyogo prefecture.
