Taisho Pharmaceutical, Nissan Chemical Industries Announce Positive Results in Phase IIb Clinical Study for NM-702.

) - Taisho Pharmaceutical and Nissan Chemical Industries jointly announced yesterday that the current phase IIb clinical study for NM-702 conducted in the US has demonstrated positive results.

An oral agent that inhibits the activities of phosphodiesterase phosphodiesterase /phos·pho·di·es·ter·ase/ (-di-es´ter-as) any of a group of enzymes that catalyze the hydrolytic cleavage of an ester linkage in a phosphoric acid compound containing two such ester linkages.  and thromboxane thromboxane /throm·box·ane/ (-bok´san) either of two compounds, one designated A2 and the other B2. Thromboxane A2 is synthesized by platelets and is an inducer of platelet aggregation and platelet release functions and is a , NM-702 is a candidate for the treatment of arteriosclerosis obliterans.

The results have met the primary endpoint of the study; namely it has improved the peak walking time of patients.

In Japan, the two companies are currently conducting phase II clinical studies of NM-702 for the treatment of intermittent claudication Intermittent Claudication Definition

Intermittent claudicationis a pain in the leg that a person experiences when walking or exercising. The pain is intermittent and goes away when the person rests.
 caused by arteriosclerosis obliterans and lumber spinal canal stenosis as well as bronchial asthma.

The two companies will now begin seeking partners in the development and sales of NM-702 outside Japan.
