Taco Bell renews ongoing commitment to Newport Classic sponsorship; company aims to raise an additional $1,000,000 over next three years.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John Martin announced the company's plans to renew its ongoing sponsorship of the Newport Classic pro-am golf tournament for an additional three years.

Taco Bell Taco Bell Corp., a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc., is a Mexican-style quick service restaurant chain based in Irvine, California, United States. The restaurant has locations primarily in the United States and Canada, but also operates outlets in several other markets.  has been sponsoring the tournament, which benefits Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, since 1992.

"We are delighted to renew our commitment for another three years as title sponsor of the annual Taco Bell Newport Classic pro-am," said John Martin. "In the last three years, Taco Bell has helped raise over $1,000,000 for Hoag Hospital, enabling them to greatly expand their emergency care unit and renovate their operating rooms."

"By sponsoring the Newport Classic over the next three years, we'd like to surpass our past fundraising, and enhance Hoag Hospital's reputation as one of the nation's leading centers of health care excellence," Martin said.

Taco Bell announced their renewed sponsorship during the tournament's gala evening, "Tee-It-Up-Fore-Hoag," a golf club-themed fundraising event held in the grand ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Irvine.

The golfing gala was an important component of the 1996 Taco Bell Newport Classic weekend, which was expected to raise $225,000 for the renovation of Hoag Hospital's operating rooms. The idea to host a fundraising gala was instituted in 1993, the first year of Taco Bell's role as title sponsor.

"The Taco Bell Newport classic just wouldn't be complete without an evening to celebrate the tremendous strides this tournament takes in helping Hoag Hospital, and providing Orange County with an annual golfing tradition," said Hank Adler, chairman of the 1996 Taco Bell Newport Classic. "We're thankful for Taco Bell's ongoing commitment, and we're looking forward to continuing this partnership over the next three years. With this year's gala, we're really celebrating 22 years of success."

Organized by members of the 552 Club and Taco Bell Corp., the Taco Bell Newport Classic golf tournament and gala evening reach a wide segment of the Orange County community.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the 552 Club is the oldest and largest of the Hoag Hospital Foundation's support groups and is made up of nearly 3,000 members. Hoag Hospital Foundation fundraising efforts benefit the hospital through the purchase of capital equipment, along with the funding of medical research and patient assistance.
