TXU Energy Joins Meals on Wheels in Dallas and Fort Worth to Help the Needy and Promote Safety This Summer; Check on Your Neighbor Cool Line: 1-800-818-6132.

:TXU) kicks off today its signature summer program Check On Your Neighbor to promote safety throughout the high heat summer months. TXU Energy joins forces with the Visiting Nurse vis·it·ing nurse

Many customers turn off their air conditioners because they are afraid that their electricity bill will be too high. TXU Energy and its partnering organizations want to remind Texans that this can be very dangerous.

"It is imperative that members of the community routinely check on their elderly or disabled neighbors who may be at risk," said Nedra Cutler, director of volunteers of Meals On Wheels, Inc. of Tarrant County. "Some of the basics that people often forget include drinking plenty of water, not exercising when temperatures are too high, and taking frequent breaks in the shade."

The Check On Your Neighbor Cool Line will be answered in person by an operator Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The number is 1-800-818-6132. After hours the number will be answered with a referral to an emergency line if needed.
