TWO WOMEN INJURED IN FILLMORE-AREA CRASH.

FILLMORE - An 81-year-old woman was in serious condition Friday after suffering head injuries when her car hit another on Highway 126 and rolled several times, authorities said.

Vicynthia Stephens of Fillmore was driving a 1993 Mercury Tracer The Mercury Tracer was Mercury's smallest car from 1988 to 1999. It was based on the platform of the Mazda 323, replacing the European-derived Mercury Lynx. 1988-1989
The Tracer was introduced in 1987 for the 1988 model year.
 westbound, east of Fillmore, when the crash occurred at 12:47 p.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer Dave Webb.

Webb said Stephens, traveling at 55 mph, crossed into an adjacent lane to pass a utility truck just as a 1994 Toyota Corolla traveling behind her at a high rate of speed also moved into the same lane.

Stephens collided with the Corolla corolla: see petal.  being driven by Nancy Stelling, 60, of Oxnard, and both cars rolled several times - the Tracer landing in a ditch, the Corolla in an orange grove, the officer said.
