TWO NEW CO ACCESS SYSTEMS SET CAPACITY, SCALABILITY STANDARDS
WAKEFIELD, Mass., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The CO ACCESS(tm) 500 and CO ACCESS 600 enhanced services platforms, introduced by Boston Technology (NASDAQ-NMS: BSTN) today, allow service providers to offer enhanced services to very large metropolitan areas with growing subscriber and application requirements, at a dramatically lower cost per subscriber. The highly redundant system architecture of Boston Technology's scalable range of CO ACCESS platforms meets and exceeds service provider requirements for high performance and reliability.
The new CO ACCESS 500 system supports busy-hour-call profiles and storage requirements of up to 60,000 mailboxes and up to 384 voice ports per node. The CO ACCESS 600 system, first introduced in October at the international VOICE trade show in London, England, maintains the company's lead in the voice messaging industry in system capacity, supporting busy-hour-call profiles and storage requirements of up to 80,000 mailboxes and up to 768 voice ports per node. The first deployment of the CO ACCESS 600 system is expected to occur in December 1992 in Japan.
"With these two new platforms, service providers can lower their costs per subscriber by supporting large subscriber populations and diverse applications on a single system," David S. Gergacz, president and CEO of Boston Technology, explained. "This ability is very important due to the success our customers are seeing in the enhanced services marketplace -- their subscriber populations are growing rapidly and the subscribers' demands are growing beyond simple call answering and voice messaging services. Our new platforms can support both this growth in population and in applications sets."
The CO ACCESS 500 and 600 systems join Boston Technology's CO ACCESS platform family, which includes the CO ACCESS 100, 200, and 1000 systems. The CO ACCESS platform family provides the broadest range of scalable platforms in the enhanced services industry, extending from 24 ports to up to 768 ports per node. They share a common application set and administration environment to ensure a smooth migration to support service providers' growing capacity needs in serving their market areas. The busy-hour-call profiles and corresponding subscribers supported by both platforms may vary depending on the particular application mix and configuration of a system.
The entire CO ACCESS platform family is designed to provide high performance, to support multiple applications and network capabilities, and to provide total enhanced telecommunication solutions on public and private networks worldwide. The CO ACCESS systems combine advanced network interfaces and an ongoing commitment to industry standards. The patented system architecture of the CO ACCESS systems is based on Boston Technology's open UNIX(R)-based software, providing the flexibility to integrate the most advanced telecommunication and computing technology available.
