TWO McDONNELL DOUGLAS RESEARCHERS NAMED McDONNELL DOUGLAS FELLOWS
ST. LOUIS, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Two researchers at McDonnell Douglas Space Systems Co. have been named McDonnell Douglas Fellows in recognition of their work in propulsion control technology and inertial navigation systems.
A total of eight researchers were named McDonnell Douglas Fellows this year, bringing the number of active Fellows at corporation to 42.
The Fellow program is a series of special technical positions reserved for McDonnell Douglas engineers and scientists whose research have meaningfully advanced their area of expertise and the company's products. Each Fellow also receives a silver medallion and cash award.
The McDonnell Douglas Space Systems Fellows are:
Dr. Dean F. Hopkins, a McDonnell Douglas employee for 31 years, has been at the forefront in the development of propulsion technology for missiles and the use of this technology to provide rapid response steering control for interceptor missiles. His leadership in this field is widely recognized by the U.S. Army Strategic Defense Command and the liquid propulsion industry. Hopkins lives in Costa Mesa, Calif.
Henry J. Dhuyvetter of Westminster, Calif., was named Fellow because of his leadership in developing guidance and control systems for launch vehicles. Dhuyvetter, who has been with McDonnell Douglas for 36 years, created the first strapped on inertial navigation system and the first redundant inertial measurement system. Among his contributions to making the McDonnell Douglas Delta the premier launch vehicle are a real-time launch vehicle targeting system and a ground-to-satellite targeting system. Dhuyvetter is currently developing what will be another industry first -- a fully redundant avionics system for the Delta.
