TWO MAJOR WASHINGTON-BASED PUBLISHERS JOIN FORCES; EAGLE PUBLISHING, INC. ACQUIRES ASSETS OF REGNERY GATEWAY, INC.

POTOMAC, Md., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Eagle Publishing, Inc., a Washington-area publisher of public-policy periodicals, has acquired the assets of Regnery Gateway, Inc., a 46-year-old book publishing firm based in Washington. The acquisition was announced jointly today by Eagle Publishing, Inc. President Jeffrey Carneal and Regnery Gateway, Inc. Publisher and CEO Alfred Regnery. Regnery will remain with the new Eagle subsidiary and serve as Regnery Publishing's president.
Since its founding in 1947, Regnery has been known for publishing hard-hitting books that challenge the status quo and often impact national and world affairs. Regnery specializes in current events, political and corporate history publishing, with trade distribution throughout North America.
Two of Regnery's landmark books helped shape modern conservative philosophy: "The Conservative Mind" by Russell Kirk and "God & Man at Yale" by William F. Buckley. In addition, Regnery is publisher of "Senatorial Privilege: The Chappaquiddick Cover-Up," the New York Times bestseller that placed the blame for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne squarely on the shoulders of Ted Kennedy, and "Witness," the seminal work by Whittaker Chambers on the truth behind the Alger Hiss spy trial. More recently, Regnery has published such titles as "Environmental Overkill" by Dixy Lee Ray and "With Reagan" by Edwin Meese.
"We're thrilled to bring a top-notch publishing company like Regnery into the fold. Alfred Regnery's distinguished career as a lawyer and publisher will be a real asset to the Eagle team," said Carneal. "The Regnery acquisition will complement our Conservative Book Club, "Human Events" and other public policy publishing."
Eagle Publishing has also acquired Libey Publishing, Inc., a subsidiary of Regnery which publishes direct marketing and business books. Regnery and Libey employees will become employees of Eagle Publishing and will operate out of Eagle's Capitol Hill office.
Headquartered in Potomac, Eagle Publishing, Inc. publishes public- policy publications with a conservative, free-enterprise focus. Eagle publishes "Human Events," the nation's only conservative weekly newspaper, and a monthly newsletter edited by former HUD Secretary Jack Kemp.
Eagle Publishing, Inc. is a subsidiary of Potomac-based Phillips Publishing International, Inc., the largest independent newsletter publisher in the United States. With annual sales of $117 million, Phillips Publishing International publishes more than 100 newsletters, magazines and directories for business and consumer markets.
