TVIG EXPANDS REPUBLIC OF HAITI POWER GENERATION PROJECTS.

Tennessee Valley Infrastructure Group Inc. (TVIG), Chattanooga, Tenn., one of the first companies to bring affordable infrastructure solutions to underserved regions around the world, has completed the installation of the Petite Goave, Haiti diesel power generation plant, bringing the company's installed power generation plants in the country to four. Plans are in development also for a fifth plant of 8MWs at another location in Haiti.

The 2MW Petite Goave power plant is the latest installation to bring 24-hour power to Haitian communities. In 2002, under contract with Societe Generale D'Energie, S.A. (Soged), TVIG also improved power generation in the cities of Cap Haitien, Les Cayes, and Jeremie.

Robbin Russell, TVIG's vice president of project management said, "These installations are bringing electricity 24 hours a day, seven days a week to communities that were accustomed to having only nominal power eight hours a day. This type of development leads to vastly improved standards of living. For instance, Cap Haiten, a city of approximately 500,000 now has the potential to reduce food spoilage problems through consistent refrigeration and decrease nighttime crime by powering street lights."

Soged, the Haitian Cummins distributor based in Port-au-Prince, has been in charge of the projects and operates as an Independent Power Producer selling power to Electricit d'Haiti under a power purchase agreement. Soged purchased the generators from Minneapolis-based Cummins Power Rent.

Rocky Hofstetter, general manager, Cummins Power Rent, who recommended TVIG for the Soged projects installations said, "TVIG brings the highest professionalism and a profound understanding of project installations under a variety of circumstances. We had every confidence in their abilities to get the Haiti power projects online. We're pleased that further installations are in the works in Haiti and look forward to working with TVIG on other future endeavors."

TVIG installed seven Cummins 1500 kW DHLE units to deliver 8MW of electricity to Electicite d'Haiti in Cap Hatien. In the city of Les Cayes, TVIG installed 4 MW of prime power to supplement the power being delivered to the city by a nearby hydro-generation plant. This plant consisted of four Cummins 1500 kW DHLE units along with transformers, switching and fuse protection.

Under a separate agreement with Electricite d'Haiti, TVIG and Soged installed a single Cummins 1500 kW DHLE unit in Jeremie. This unit will be used in conjunction with another diesel unit to increase the reliability and generation capacity of the city. This unit and installation were sold to Electricite d'Haiti and will not be operated by Soged.
