Jewels Marie Rogers, 19, who attended area schools, suffered life-threatening injuries Dec. 8, when her truck was hit by a car operated by an alleged drunk driver who was being chased by police.

``The hospital said they'd never seen anyone arrive with so many internal and external injuries alive,'' said the teen's mother, Mary Lou Rogers. ``She's fighting for her life.''

The motorist who hit Jewels Rogers, Richard Carter, 25, of Jacksonville, Fla., has been charged with causing serious bodily injury while driving drunk, reckless driving reckless driving n. operation of an automobile in a dangerous manner under the circumstances, including speeding (or going too fast for the conditions, even though within the posted speed limit), driving after drinking (but not drunk), having too many passengers in  and several other counts, officials said. Carter posted $25,000 bail and was released from jail Friday.

Officials said Carter's Camaro ran a red light and hit Jewels Rogers' truck with such force that she was thrown free of her vehicle, landing 100 feet away against a cement curb. She was not wearing her seat belt, officials said.
