ABC News is a division of American television and radio network ABC, owned by The Walt Disney Company. Its current president is David Westin.
. McSherry died June 16 at age 86.

McSherry began his 40-year career in broadcast news as a copy boy at NBC NBC
 in full National Broadcasting Co.

``He was the most wonderful boss,'' said Bruce Carroll, a former producer for ABC News in Los Angeles. ``Bill was the wise voice if we had a question. He was not into every detail. He was a wonderful leader.''

He later served as national news editor for ABC News before moving to California and working as the network's news director for the Western states. McSherry retired in 1981 to pursue fiction writing.

McSherry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bobette; and children, Patti, Kevin and Sean.

A memorial service will be held at 8 a.m. July 11 at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church Roman Catholic Church, Christian church headed by the pope, the bishop of Rome (see papacy and Peter, Saint). Its commonest title in official use is Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. , 5011 White Oak Ave., Encino.
