TV/COM signs agreement with Telepiu to market DBS-3001 digital satellite receiver in Italy.


SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 1997--

Under the Hyundai brand, the set-top receiver is the first to

incorporate the revolutionary OpenTV software for unlimited

flexibility and downloadable applications

Enhancing its position as the world leader in supplying open architecture delivery solutions for television via cable, satellite and PC, TV/COM International Inc., a subsidiary of Hyundai Electronics, Thursday announced that it has signed an agreement with Telepiu, the Italian pay-TV company.

Under the terms of the agreement, TV/COM will supply, before its debut and exclusively to the Italian market, DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) An international digital television (DTV) standard that is the European and Far Eastern counterpart of the North American ATSC standard.  MPEG-2 digital satellite receivers under the Hyundai brand. The receivers are the first to incorporate the OpenTV system, which is highly adaptable and enables downloading new management software from satellites.
