TURNER INTERNATIONAL AWARDED NEW CONTRACT FROM KUWAIT'S
 MINISTRY OF PUBLIC WORKS
NEW YORK, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Turner Corporation (AMEX: TUR) today announced that its subsidiary, Turner International Industries, Inc., has entered into a construction management agreement with the Ministry of Public Works of Kuwait -- only the second such agreement signed by the Ministry since the Gulf War -- for the completion of design and construction of the Amiri Diwan, Crown Prince and Prime Ministers Office and Council of Ministers buildings.
When complete, the project will serve as the seat of government of the State of Kuwait. The current estimated volume is US$350 million. The Amiri Diwan project, which had been started by the Turner joint venture team prior to the Gulf War, will be under construction for 2-1/2 years.
The work will be done in joint venture with Turner's Kuwaiti partner, Project Analysis and Control Systems Company (Projacs). The contract for the Amiri Diwan is the third contract obtained by Turner and Projacs since the liberation.
The multiple buildings of the project enclose 1.8 million square feet of the highest quality finishes and state-of-the-art mechanical and electrical systems.
Harold J. Parmelee, president of Turner Construction Company, remarked, "Turner has been active in construction in the Middle East since the early 1970s and is particularly pleased to be involved in the completion of this important project for the government of Kuwait."
The Turner Corporation, through Turner Construction Company and other construction subsidiaries, is the nation's largest builder of commercial, industrial, hospital and healthcare, institutional, retail, government building and multi-unit housing projects. Operating through more than 35 offices, Turner has construction projects under way throughout the United States and abroad.
During 1991, the Turner Corporation completed $2.7 billion of construction.
