TURKEY POINT SIREN SYSTEM TO BE TESTED; SAFETY PLANNING BOOKLETS MAILED TO AREA RESIDENTS

MIAMI, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida Power & Light Company and the Metro-Dade Office of Emergency Management will conduct the monthly test of Turkey Point Nuclear plant's outdoor warning sirens Friday (Jan. 8) at 1 p.m.
The test will involve a two-minute sounding of the 42 sirens within the 10-mile Turkey Point emergency planning zone. Before and after the sirens sound, a message will be broadcast on the siren's public-address system stating "this is only a test." FPL and Metro-Dade County Office of Emergency Management regularly test the siren system to ensure its operability.
Additionally, FPL, in cooperation with the state of Florida and Dade and Monroe counties, recently mailed approximately 65,000 booklets to residences and businesses living within the 10-mile area of the Turkey Point Nuclear Plant. The booklet, entitled "Safety Planning Information for Neighbors of FPL's Turkey Point Nuclear Plant," provides detailed safety information for residents in the unlikely event of an emergency at Turkey Point nuclear power plant.
Residents living in the 10-mile area of the plant who have not received the booklet by Jan. 18 should contact the Office of Emergency Management in Dade County at 305-596-8735 and in Monroe County at 305-289-6018.
