TURKEY - June 24 - Bomb Blasts.A bomb blast rips through an Istanbul Istanbul (ĭs'tănb l`, ĭstan`b l), city (1990 pop. 6,748,435), capital of Istanbul prov. city bus, killing two people
(just before NATO's June 28-29 summit in this city). The bus was
passing in front of a hospital in a residential district of Istanbul,
the country's largest city, when the blast occurred. Ambulances
rushed to the scene. Seven people were hurt. Earlier on June 24, a small
parcel bomb exploded ex·plode v. ex·plod·ed, ex·plod·ing, ex·plodes v.intr. 1. To release mechanical, chemical, or nuclear energy by the sudden production of gases in a confined space: outside the Hilton Hotel in Ankara, where Pres. Bush arrived on June 26 to stay two nights before moving to Istanbul. The second blast wounded three people.
