DiscGuard protects optical media from illegal replication and addresses both the problems of illicit mass-production of software or other electronic content (counterfeiting) and copying by the casual user using low-cost CD recorders.

Under terms of the contract, Cutting Edge will sell and market DiscGuard in the consumer electronics, toy and computer channels in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. Based in Elmsford, N.Y., Cutting Edge and its sister company, CE2, Inc., focus on marketing and selling categories including computer hardware and software, consumer electronics and video games See video game console.  and represent product lines such as LG, Tatung, Targus and Hercules computer products; Aztech New Media, Intense Entertainment and Midisoft software; video game manufacturers such as Ubisoft and Quickshot; and consumer electronics products from AT&T Wireless and Magellan Systems.

The announcement of the agreement with Cutting Edge closely follows TTR's announcement, on April 1, that it will employ DiscGuard technology to protect educational CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs created by Hollywood, Calif.-based EHQ EHQ European Headquarters

DiscGuard places an indelible digital "signature" on optical media at the time of manufacture, without which the software cannot be used. This "signature" is designed to be read by CD/DVD-Rom disc drives but cannot be duplicated by CD recorders or by re-mastering, making it a highly effective weapon in the battle against the illegal duplication of software, games, video and other content, distributed on optical discs.

DiscGuard protection is currently available at Nimbus CD International, Inc. replication facilities. Nimbus CD International Inc., one of the world's largest independent disc replicators, licensed DiscGuard technology at the end of last year.
