TTC introduces new jitter features to the INTERCEPTOR 1402S SDH/PDH Communications Analyser.GERMANTOWN, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 1997--TTC(R), a Dynatech Company (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange :DYT), announced Thursday the addition of new jitter testing options to the INTERCEPTOR(R) 1402S SDH/PDH Communications Analyser. TTC has added fully-digital PDH/SDH Jitter Generator and PDH/SDH Jitter Analyser options to the INTERCEPTOR 1402S. These options provide highly-accurate jitter analysis in order to verify compliance with ITU-T See ITU. ITU-T - International Telecommunications Union specifications for jitter control. As networks evolve from PDH to SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) The European counterpart to SONET. See SONET. SDH - Synchronous Digital Hierarchy , the complexity of network synchronisation has drastically increased. Pointer movements caused by improper synchronisation have become the major cause of jitter in demuxed PDH tributaries. In addition, the nature of jitter has changed from periodic to bursty with higher amplitude. Excessive jitter degrades the performance of the network by introducing bit errors in the digital signals which can cause loss of data. In order to guarantee the quality of services, it is critical to minimise jitter to levels accepted by ITU-T standards. "TTC's INTERCEPTOR 1402S provides a complete solution for combating jitter in SDH/PDH networks," said Sally Qiu, product marketing engineer, TTC. "The INTERCEPTOR 1402S jitter generation and jitter measurement modules use state-of-the-art digital implementation which provides greater accuracy in the measurement of jitter in SDH networks. Older analogue designs are no longer adequate since they are unable to respond quickly enough to track the bursty nature of pointer-induced jitter." The INTERCEPTOR 1402S is a comprehensive PDH/SDH tester, with VC12, VC3, and VC4 mapping; full Mux/Demux among all rates supported to include N x 64kbit/s; performance analysis per G.821/G.826 and M.2100/M.2101; Automatic Protection Switch testing; optical power, insertion loss, and return loss measurements; and remote control capability. With the addition of jitter testing capability, the INTERCEPTOR 1402S provides a powerful tool for equipment verification, network installation and maintenance. The two new jitter options are field upgradeable and will be available for shipment July 1997. The PDH/SDH Jitter Generator option cost $4,995 (US) and the PDH/SDH Jitter Analyser option cost $5,995 (US).
