TTC Offers Feature Enhancements to T-Berd 950 Communications Analyzer.GERMANTOWN, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 29, 1997-- Options Enable End-to-End WAN Testing of Analog and Digital Circuits at the Customer's Premises Demonstrating the enduring value of TTC(R)'s test offerings, the T-BERD(R) 950 Communications Analyzer now comes with two field-installed options that address the challenges brought by the multi-service communications industry. The options, announced Tuesday by TTC, a Dynatech company (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange : DYT), enable the user to thoroughly test digital and analog WAN circuits, end to end, from the customer premises. Both options are available now. The T-BERD 950, recipient of the 1997 Communications News Users' Choice Award for Network Management Test Equipment, combines multiple voice and data services test capabilities into a single, portable test set. This feature-rich instrument now enables users to benefit from improved testing functionality that combines portability with ease of use, expandability and affordability. The new T-BERD 950 options are: Datacom (DTE/DCE) Interface Module. This option combines with other T-BERD 950 features to provide end-to-end testing across the wide area network. The module facilitates installation and testing of CSUs, routers, bridges and other WAN access equipment at the customer's premises. The module also enables testing through, or the emulation of, customer premises equipment See CPE. , by performing DTE and DCE emulation and monitoring at synchronous rates from 50 b/s to 10 Mb/s. Both BER (1) (Basic Encoding Rules) A set of encoding rules for ASN.1 notation, which is a method for defining data structures. See ASN.1. (2) (Bit Error Rate) The average number of bits transmitted in error. See BERT. 1. testing and frame relay testing can be performed at a variety of access points including RS-232, V.35, RS-449, EIA-530 and X.21. Analog (2W/4W) Interface Module. With this option, users can test analog voice and data circuits from the customer premises. When only one technician is available, the Analog (2W/4W) Interface Module enables the user to perform loopback testing. In addition to TIMS testing, the module combines the functionality of a butt set and a separate analog voice set to place or receive calls of loop start, ground start and DID circuits. "As WANs become increasingly taxed by demands for new services, speed and mission-critical performance, the T-BERD 950 is uniquely positioned to provide complete services testing on analog and digital networks in one easy-to-use instrument," said Sean Yarborough, product marketing manager, TTC. "These feature additions strengthen the T-BERD 950 and make it the best choice for testing." The T-BERD 950 includes AC power, battery power, and a module slot for future expansion in a rugged unit weighing less than 13 pounds. It incorporates two viewer interfaces including a graphical LCD display and a two-line test results display familiar to current T-BERD users. This user interface approach, the full set of features, and its functional design allow users to minimize overall set-up and test time, and reduce costs by combining the services of multiple test instruments into one unit. Based on the configuration of the T-BERD 950, prices range from $8,795 to $27,000.
