TSMC ANNOUNCES OPTION FOR CAPACITY AGREEMENTS; Deposits Guarantee Long-Term Fab Capacity.


HSIN-CHU, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 1995--Science Park - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. today announced that it has begun offering customers an option mechanism designed to guarantee long term fab capacity.

Early customers entering into the option agreement are Acer Lab, Analog Devices Analog Devices (NYSE: ADI) is an American multinational producer of semiconductor devices. Analog specializes in ADC, DAC, MEMS, and DSP chips for consumer and industrial goods. Analog is presently designing circuits in the 65 nanometer to 3 µm process feature sizes range. , Oak Technology, Trident, S3 and Sunplus.

 deposit on additional wafers to be manufactured in the future. The terms of these agreements specify that TSMC retains first rights to buy back options purchased by its customers.

TSMC customers are semiconductor companies supplying devices for the exploding computer, networking and communications markets. In the last three high demand years the company increased its output from 665,000 6-inch wafers in 1993 to 1.2 million in 1995.

By September 1995, Fab 3 will be in volume production for a variety of customers, ramping to full capacity of 22,000 8" wafers per month in 1997 and 35,000 8-inch wafers per month in 1998. By 1997, Fab 4 will be in production ramping to its full output capacity of 25,000 8" wafers per month in 1998.
