Mobile operators gain full, real-time control over services and pricing for roaming customers, and mobile subscribers use the same prepaid services abroad that they use in their home network with TSI's new prepaid roaming solution, SIM Controlled Calling (SCC), launched today at GSM Americas by TSI Telecommunication Services Inc. TSI's SCC solution, developed and patented by PrivaCom, is a SIM card-based roaming solution that converts outgoing mobile-originated roaming calls into incoming mobile terminating calls. The solution is interoperable with any GSM network using standard protocols and roaming agreements. Subscribers can use the service for national calls in visited countries, calls to their home country, including service numbers, and for international calls around the globe. SCC enables use of the same prepaid services abroad that are used in the home network, including seamless use of the personal phone book, prepaid account access, voicemail, directory enquiry, customer care numbers and 0800 and 0900 numbers.

TSI's SCC solution is based on a call back system. If the subscriber is outside their home network -- roaming on a third party network -- the set-up of a call will be managed by the SCC application embedded in the SIM card and the home operator's back-end system. The roaming mobile subscriber's call initiates a trigger to the home operator switch. The SCC application on the mobile device triggers the backend system either by an SMS or a USSD message. The backend system then sets up a call to the subscriber directly. The subscriber manually accepts the incoming call when the handset rings. The switch will then set up a call to the destination number or value added service (VAS) platform and instantly connects the two.

TSI's SCC solution is compatible with protocols such as CAMEL, which makes intelligent network services available internationally.
