This performance-based task order has an initial period of three years and can be renewed by the government for two additional two-year option periods. "The mission of our agency is clear--to ensure the safe transport of people throughout the nation's transportation system," said Patrick R. Schambach, Associate Undersecretary, Office of Information Technology. "Unisys and its team offer the finest capabilities and credentials and provide the best value proposition to implement an enterprise-wide managed services solution to meet our needs."

Also included in the contract are a full complement of managed services to integrate everything from personal digital assistants (PDAs) and secure mobile radios to high availability local- and wide-area networks and enterprise operations centers. As such, the contract is consistent with the White House Office of Management and Budget's objective to invest in common infrastructure for the new Department of Homeland Security.

"We are excited to be working with TSA. No job is more important than helping our nation secure the safety of its people," said Greg Baroni, president, Unisys Global Public Sector. "The contract award demonstrates the quality of Unisys offerings, as well as our experience and our fine team of premier solutions providers."

Unisys and its partners, who together invest billions of dollars annually on research and development, will provide TSA access to emerging technologies and quality solutions. Additionally, the Unisys team's resource base will be responsive and flexible in addressing TSA's evolving needs as it expands its scope to other methods of transportation.
