TRW announced recently that the company has made strides in providing a more affordable launch vehicle, for the U.S. space program that rivals the power of the Saturn F-1, which carried Apollo missions into space during the 1970s. The initial static firing of a Low Cost Pintle Engine has encouraged officials that they are on the right track for creating a rocket that could account for a 50 to 75 percent savings in overall launch costs for liquid hydrogen booster engines.

The same coaxial Pintle injector technology that went into the Lunar Module Descent Engine and landed U.S. astronauts on the Moon, is once again being called upon to play an important role in the 21st century space program.
