TRW awarded a $56.7 million support contract in Suffolk, Va.

 a $56.7 million contract to support the new Joint Training Analysis and Simulation Center in Suffolk. Work on this five-year cost-plus-award contract will employ approximately 200 people in the Virginia Tidewater tidewater, in U.S. history, that part of the Atlantic coastal plain between the shoreline and the farthest upstream points in rivers reached by oceanic tides. In many cases the fall line is given as the western boundary.  area.

The Joint Training Analysis and Simulation Center (JTASC JTASC Joint Training, Analysis, and Simulations Center (US DoD) ) is located in the Suffolk complex originally built to house the Naval Undersea Warfare Center The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) is the United States Navy's full-spectrum research, development, test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support center for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, and offensive and defensive weapons systems associated with . The 220,000-square-foot compound is equipped with state-of-the-art computers and simulators to support training for joint task force commanders and staff in the continental United States United States territory, including the adjacent territorial waters, located within North America between Canada and Mexico. JTASC will serve as the technical and services support hub for the joint training, exercise and rehearsal programs of the nearly 80% of the nation's armed forces under the command of the U.S. Atlantic Command.

As prime contractor, TRW will provide program management support, design training exercises, monitor execution of the training, and analyze the results. TRW will lead a team of five subcontractors.

The team has extensive experience in joint training and exercises, as well as integrated simulation and computer modeling technologies to support the JTASC.

BDM will provide support for exercise control function and after-action analysis. Bolt Beranek Newman's Systems and Technologies Division will provide operational planning, facilitating joint forces training from any major U.S. military network in the world. Materials, Communication and Computers will provide support training development and delivery. Professional Software Engineering will furnish local area network services, graphics and audiovisual support. Veda will provide the modeling and simulation support for training exercises.

"This contract win comes at an important time for TRW," said Ray Godman, vice president and general manager of TRW's Government Information Services See Information Systems.  Division. "JTASC will help position TRW as a highly competitive company in the new and growing market segment of interactive training simulation. As the demand for training increases and the resources available decrease, this type of program will set the standards for future realistic training contracts."

Donald Dyer, the TRW program manager, has opened an office in Suffolk to support this contract. "This is an exciting opportunity to deliver training in a different fashion than we have in the past," said Dyer. "The JTASC program will provide joint force commanders with realistic training through modeling and simulation without the expense of large field exercises."

TRW provides advanced technology products and services to the automotive, space and defense, and information systems markets. Sales in 1994 were $9 billion.
