TRW Wins Software Development Contract to Help Army Simulate Wargames.

TRW Inc. (NYSE: TRW) won a $17 million follow-on contract from prime contractor Raytheon Company for further development and maintenance of the U.S. Army's Extended Air Defense TestBed (EADTB).

The EADTB simulates potential air and missile defense scenarios to help military analysts learn the most effective response to future threats.

The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command awarded a $42.5 million prime contract on July 30 to Raytheon for program management and system engineering. Total potential contract value from the Army is $200 million over 10 years. TRW has been the lead software development provider for this program since contract inception in 1989 and the major contributor in producing 2.2 million lines of code.

The EADTB offers a robust, user-flexible representation of C4I systems, weapon systems, and sensors for National Missile Defense and Theater Air and Missile Defense analyses. The EADTB offers a number of special capabilities and operates with variable detail that allows coverage of a range of simulation needs, including system engineering and analysis, operational analysis, and training support.

Other members of the Raytheon EADTB team include: The Boeing Company, Madison Research Company, McDaniel Enterprises, SAIC, SPARTA, Kottmann, and SDA.

The project is based in Huntsville, Ala., where TRW employs more than 350 people with approximately 30 working directly on the EADTB contract.

TRW's Space & Missile Systems unit has facilities in Huntsville, Ala.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Ogden, Utah; San Bernadino, Calif.; and Fairfax, Va.
