While LucasVarity officials indicated they will accept TRW's offer, a rival suitor SUITOR. One who is a party to a suit or action in court. One who is a party to an action. LucasVarity officials said the TRW offer has the support of the company's board, and there was no indication that support would change.

Yet Victor Rice, LucasVarity chief executive officer, said his company would be ``appropriately accommodating when and if Federal-Mogul makes an appropriate offer.''

The automotive supply industry has been consolidating rapidly. The combination of TRW and Federal-Mogul would be the fifth industry merger in 1999, according to Securities Data Co.
