TRW Emphasizes Its Growing Helicopter Presence At Heli-Expo 2000.

With the acquisition of SAMM of France, TRW Inc. (NYSE:TRW) has an increasingly growing presence in the helicopter equipment market. This growth can be evidenced at the TRW Aeronautical Systems (Lucas Aerospace) stand, No. 941, at Heli-Expo 2000 to be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Jan. 24-26. TRW Aeronautical Systems' acquisition of SAMM early last year has provided the company with an increasing share of the helicopter flight controls market, while adding hydraulic generators and electrohydraulic components to its already strong market positions in hoists and winches, electric power generation, engine systems and power transmission.

Recognized as a market leader in DC starter-generator electrical systems, TRW Aeronautical Systems will be highlighting its state-of-the-art generator control unit (GCU) for use in 28-volt DC electrical power generating systems. This GCU features a programmable micro-controller that allows customizing of protection and control logic and currently has applications on the MD Explorer and Bell/Agusta 609. Also featured will be 150-, 200-, and 300-ampere 28-volt DC starter generators currently flying on a wide range of helicopters such as the Bell 206, 212, 412, 230, 430, 407 and 427, the Agusta AB206, AB 212, and AB 412, Eurocopter BO105, EC135, Eurocopter/Kawasaki BK117, MD Helicopter 500, Sikorsky S-76, and the Kaman K-MAX. The starter generators have a dual-purpose design performing both engine starting and power generating functions in helicopters and various small gas turbine engine installations.

The company will also be displaying both its externally and internally mounted rescue hoists proven in military and civil service around the world. TRW Aeronautical Systems hoists are used extensively by the U.S. Army and U.S. Coast Guard for air/sea medical evacuation missions on helicopters such as Sikorsky's S-92, S-76, S-70; the Sikorsky/U.S. Military Black Hawk 60 Series; the Bell Helicopter 430, 412 and 212; Eurocopter's EC135 and BK117; and in Japan on helicopters including the JMSDF SH-60J and UH-60J, and the JSDF UH-60J.
