The TRW-developed Guardrail Common Sensor System 2, called Guardrail 2000, will be a key component of the Army's next-generation Aerial Common Sensor The Lockheed Martin Aerial Common Sensor (ACS) platform was a reconnaissance aircraft airframe, for the United States Army and Navy. The aircraft would have been able to detect troop movements, intercept enemy communications and radar transmissions, and communicate with other  system that will provide battlefield commanders with the world's most advanced tactical surveillance data for the 21st century.

The Guardrail 2000 roll-out marks the seventh generation of successfully fielded Guardrail systems over the span of 29 years. Previous versions have been used to provide enemy location information during Desert Storm and to support the Bosnia peacekeeping peace·keep·ing

Attending today's event were approximately 400 members of the U.S. Army, industry and the Office of the Secretary of Defense The Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) is part of the United States Department of Defense and includes the entire staff of the Secretary of Defense. It is the principal staff element of the Secretary of Defense in the exercise of policy development, planning, resource , many of whom had worked together for nearly three decades to produce the world's most advanced signal intelligence capability for the Department of Defense.

&uot;Guardrail 2000 is the DoD's only real-time signal intelligence targeting system and the Army's only reconnaissance system with a direct airborne satellite relay,&uot; said Herman Redd, TRW's Guardrail program spokesperson.

The system, comprised of a twin-engine Beechcraft airplane airplane, aeroplane, or aircraft, heavier-than-air vehicle, mechanically driven and fitted with fixed wings that support it in flight through the dynamic action of the air.  and a ground station that remotely controls the flow of intelligence data, forms the foundation for Army Corps intelligence collection and serves as a critical element of the national intelligence collection infrastructure.

Guardrail's ability to accurately pinpoint communications and radar emitters, plus its Direct Air-to-Satellite Relay capability that gives the system an unlimited global geographic range, will serve as baseline anchors for the new Aerial Common Sensor.
