TRW Aeronautical Systems, Lucas Aerospace Finalizes Acquisition of Pierburg Luftfahrtgerate Union GmbH.

TRW Aeronautical Systems, Lucas Aerospace (NYSE: TRW) has acquired Pierburg Luftfahrtgerate Union GmbH (PLU) of Neuss, Germany, from Kolbenschmidt Pierburg AG.

TRW Aeronautical Systems has had a 34 percent share of PLU since 1970, which increased to 40 percent in 1990, and today finalized the purchase of the remaining 60 percent for an undisclosed amount.

This acquisition follows the company's recent acquisition of SAMM in France.

TRW Aeronautical Systems purchased the aviation portion of PLU which designs and manufactures fuel control systems and components for aircraft engines and provides repair and overhaul services in the aftermarket. PLU had a 1998 aviation sales turnover of 61 million DM ($33 million). The company also produced flow meterology components for the automotive industry, which was split off from PLU and integrated 100 percent into Pierburg. The PLU purchase strengthens TRW Aeronautical Systems' engine systems business, which is currently the largest independent producer of aerospace engine systems in the world.

Employing 250 employees, PLU also gives TRW Aeronautical Systems an operational base in Germany and enables the company to enhance its repair and overhaul capability particularly serving European air forces.
